Gene expression of three isoforms of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) and dynamics of the alterations in the protein content of the plant type PEPC-polypeptide in the Brachypodium distachyon genome have been studied. Immunoblotting method showed that the Brppc1had the highest expression level of the protein. However, the gene expression pattern of the bacterial form of the enzyme is different from that of the plant type enzyme under salt and water stress. It is suggested that the increase of the amounts of both polypeptides in green leaves of the drought-stressed mature plants is related to the remobilization of organic nitrogen and carbon.
