ROS Generation And Photochemical Efficiency Of Chloroplasts Of Plants Grown Under Background Radiation

Generation levels of hydrogen peroxide and superoxide radicals, as well as some photosynthetic parameters
in chronically irradiated plants of syrian bean-caper (Zygophyllum fabago L.), reed (Phragmites australis)
(Cav.), siberian sea rosemary (Argusia sibirica (L.) Dandy), oleaster (Eleagnus caspica) (Sosn.) Grossh have
been studied. Analysis revealed that total chlorophyll quantity increased under the influence of ionizing radiation
in all studied plants besides Eleagnus caspica. The photochemical activity of PS II significantly increased
in Phragmites australis, Zygophyllum fabago and Elaeagnus caspica plants and decreased in Argusia
sibirica. Histochemical analysis detected an increase in generation of hydrogen peroxide in irradiated
leaves of syrian bean-caper, siberian sea rosemary and oleaster, whereas high levels of superoxide radicals
were accumulated in stressed plants of Zygophyllum fabago and Argusia Sibirica L.
