About the Journal


Proceedings of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (Biological and Medical Sciences) is a basic journal published in our country dedicated to the study of urgent problems of modern biology and medicine. Articles dealing with the study in many areas of biology (biochemistry) molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, physiology (human, plant and animal) zoology, botany, plant reserve experience and introduction etc.) as well as articles reflecting the result of studies on the clinical practice of medicine are preferably given. Journal accepts various formats of literary works such as rapid communications, research articles, review articles, article-commentaries, and meeting-reports. It has a web-site (www.jbio.az) along with international standard serial number (ISSW 2078-3388).  Researchers from near abroad and former Soviet Republic are also very interested in the journal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Journal Manuscript Submission Requirements And Quidelines For Publication In The “Proceedings Of The Azerbaijan National Academy Of Sciences (Biological And Medical Sciences)”

 

Manuscripts typed in three languages - Azerbaijani, Russian and English - are accepted for publication. It must reflect the results of the author’s own (original) researches; the results should not be published in other journals prior to submission for publication. In order to preserve the priority of the obtained new results small-scale (1-3 pages) articles with report character can be published. Analytical reviews which include the author's own researches are also accepted for publication. The volume of research articles compiled according to the quidlines should not exceed 5-10 pages, for review articles it should not exceed 20 pages.

 

  1. 1.      Structure of articles:

a)    Research articles should include the following sections:

INTRODUCTION

MATERIALS AND METHODS

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

CONCLUSIONS (is not mandatory for review articles)

REFERENCES

In particular cases, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT section (should not exceed 10-12 lines) with expression of gratuity to individuals or scientific institutions related to the implementation of the research is also accepted before REFERENCES section. Headings in review articles are determined by choice of the author.

b)    INTRODUCTION should contain a brief review of recent works performed concerning the research and the research actuality.

c)    Research object(s) and methods of implementationmust be clearly specified in the MATERIALS AND METHODS section. The models of devices and equipment used during the research work and country of manufacture must be specified.

d)    Course of the research, results obtained and their discussion are presented in the RESULTS AND DISCUSSION section. Tables, graphs, diagrams, figures, chemical and mathematical formulas may be used during presentation of the research results.

 

  1. 2.      Guidelines for compilation of articles:

Paper must be necessarily submitted in MS Office Word (version 97-2003 or later).

Paper A4. Margins: 2 cm from each side.

Font: Times New Roman.

Font size: 11. Interval: 1.     

a)    The Article Title: Font: Bold and Each Word Capitilized. Size: 14. Alignment - to the Left.

b)    The author’s initials and last name: Font: Bold. Size: 11. Alignment - to the Left.

c)    The full name and address of the institution, author(s) e-mail addresses:

d)    Abstract: Font: bold. Aligned to the borders. Size: 11.

e)    Keywords (no more than 10). Font: bold italic.

f)     Main text of the article is presented in 2 columns. Columns of equal width and 8.1 cm, and 0.8 cm distance between them. Font: simple. Size: 11. Aligned to the borders.

Main text indention size is 0.75 cm (space embedded).

References indention size 0.25 cm (space not embedded).

g)    SECTION HEADINGS. FONT: BOLD UPPERCASE.

h)    In the end of the article (after the REFERENCES) there is a short summary typed in a single column format in two languages different from the language of the article ​​(in Russian and English for articles that are written in Azerbaijani, in Azerbaijani and Russian for articles written in Russian, in Azerbaijani and Russian languages ​​for articles written in English). Title of the article (font - bold and each worl capitalized, aligned in the middle, size 11). The initials and last names of the authors (font – bold, aligned in the middle, size 11). The name and address of the institution, author(s Font: simple. Size: 11. Aligned to the left. Main text (summary, abstract) (font – simple, size 11).

 

 

 

  1. 3.      Requirements for illustrations, formulas and tables:

a)    The width of the table placed in one column should not exceed 8.1 cm, a width of the tables placed in two columns - 17.0 cm. Link to the tables in the text should be presented as following: (Table 1), (Table 2) or (Table 1, 2), etc. Font size: 10 or 11. Table 1. (font - bold). Title of the table (font – simple). Names of the quantities (font - bold), values (font - simple).

b)    Pictures, graphics and schemes should be unifed in figures. Link to the figures in the text should be presented as following: (Fig. 1), (Fig. 2) or (Fig. 1, 2), etc. The width of figures placed in one column should not exceed 8.1 cm, the width of graphs placed in two columns should not exceed 17.0 cm.

c)    Figure captions (font size 11). Fig. 1. (font - bold), legends (font - simple). X-axis and Y-axis titles and captions (font - bold), and values of X- and Y-axes (font - simple).

d)    Graphs must be compiled using appropriate graphic software (MS Excel, SiqmaPlot, Origin etc.).

e)    Chemical formulas must be drawn using appropriate software such as SymyxDraw, ChemDraw, ChemOffice etc., and mathematical formulas - using MS Equation, MathType formula editors etc. Mathematical formulas must be numbered if there is no less than one formula, and title and explanations of chemical formulas must be typed below or aside.

f)     Pictures should be placed in the text following processing using appropriate photo editors. Separately presented pictures should be submitted in jpeg, tiff, bmp, pdf or similar formats, the resolution should not be less than 300 dpi.

 

  1. 4.      Reference citation and compilation of the reference list:

a)    Citation for reference should be given within the text in parentheses. Citation reflects the last name of the first author, year of publication of the article (source). For example: (Ivanov, 1998 a, b; Freedi et al., 2003; Mamedov et al., 2011).

b)    Sources are sorted in the list of references in alphabetical order. For sources written in different languages the sorting order is as follows: first are the sources written in Azerbaijani, then in Russian (other Slavic languages), and afterwards in other foreign languages using Latin script, including English as well.

c)    The reference sources should be ultimately informative. The sources sorting order is as follows: the authors of the article (font - bold), then the year of publication in parentheses (font - simple), followed by the name of the article (fonts - simple), name of the publisher (font - simple), journal volume, number (font - bold), pages number (font - simple) (see below).

d)    References should be presented in the original language. If for any reason you are forced to translate the source the original language should be specified in parentheses in the end of the source. See the sample for the full compilation.

 

 

  1. 5.      Articles should be submitted for publication personally or by postal mail in one copy signed by the authors with the decision of the Scientific Council of the appropriate institution (except for foreign authors) attached. The electronic version of the article may also be submitted to the editorial office on CD (DVD) personally (manually) or by e-mail (xebbio@baku.ab.az). The file name of electronic vesion of the article should represent surname and initials of the author (or first author). For example: Aliyev_BC.doc; Mamedov_DE.docx/
